2025 CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) established the CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award in 2015 to recognize employees whose contributions during their career have greatly impacted and supported the growth and improvement of the CAP, including its staff, its members, and patients.

Julia A. Rankenburg

The College of American Pathologists presents Julia A. Rankenburg with the 2025 CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her deep commitment and lasting contributions to the CAP Foundation and its mission.

Since joining the CAP, Julia has brought 35 years of experience, serving the CAP for 21 years in areas such as proficiency testing, quality indicators, membership, and program management. For the past 14 years, she has served the CAP Foundation, where her journey began with shaping the See, Test & Treat® program. Through her efforts, the program expanded its reach and new partners to bring free cancer screenings to underserved women across the US. Julia has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the Foundation’s programs and goals by expanding grand offerings to support residents and practicing pathologists in areas of leadership, education, and research, both within the US and globally. In 2019, when Gerald Hanson, MD, FCAP, endowed the Global Pathology Fund through the Foundation, Julia took on critical staff responsibilities to support this initiative. Her leadership and operational excellence ensured the successful launch and long-term viability of the program. With her guidance, the Foundation has provided over 100 awards to pathologists outside the US and supported the development of meaningful educational offerings in under resourced regions.

Julia’s influence extends across the CAP Foundation. Whether facilitating See, Test & Treat® programs, managing Foundation roundtables, or administering award programs, she plays a central—though often behind-the-scenes—role in ensuring each initiative runs smoothly. She’s been instrumental in reviewing applications, distributing funds, and supporting awardees, ensuring both operational efficiency and meaningful outcomes for the recipients.

Julia has built a lasting trust with donors and benefactors. Many individuals who support the Foundation cite Julia’s professionalism, transparency, and dedication as a key reason for their continued engagement. Her ability to connect the Foundation’s mission with measurable results has helped to expand its impact across all stages of a pathologist’s career.

Julia A. Rankenburg is the senior manager of Program and Fund Administration at the College of American Pathologists Foundation.
