Andrew M. Bellizzi, MD, FCAP, is a clinical professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Bellizzi completed undergraduate work in Anthropology and Science Preprofessional Studies at the University of Notre Dame (‘00) and received his medical degree from Northwestern University (‘04). Following combined training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Virginia (‘08), he completed a fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology at The Ohio State University (‘09). After two years as a junior faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he moved to Iowa in the fall of 2011.

Dr. Bellizzi is director of Immunohistochemistry and GI Pathology and co-director of the GI Pathology Fellowship at the University of Iowa. He is an active member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, and the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society, including serving as immediate past Chair of the USCAP Stowell-Orbison Award and the CAP Immunohistochemistry Committees. He is secretary-treasurer of the International Society for Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology and is an associate (Reviews), section (Immunohistochemistry), and assistant editor (GI pathology) of Applied Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, respectively. He is on the Neuroendocrine Tumor Expert Panel for the 9th Edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual.

Dr. Bellizzi's research interests include the diagnosis, classification, and etiopathogenesis of human disease, with an emphasis on gastrointestinal, pancreatic, neuroendocrine, and hereditary tumors. His research program focuses on applications of diagnostic immunohistochemistry.

Outside of the office, Andrew enjoys "getting into trouble" with his 17- and 19-year-old boys, Aidan and Darby. In addition to "very special stains," he also loves hiking, cooking, craft beer, Notre Dame football, the Boston Red Sox, and the Oxford comma.

Yasmeen Butt, MD, FCAP, is an associate professor and consultant at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She is a thoracic pathologist and is part of a busy pulmonary pathology consultation service. She has published numerous articles in the field and has lectured both nationally and internationally on various topics in pulmonary pathology. She is the co-author of the published textbook Atlas of Pulmonary Pathology: A Pattern-Based Approach. Dr. Butt is the current chair of the CAP’s New In Practice committee.

Michael R. Clay, MD, FCAP, is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado, Aurora and is board certified in anatomic pathology and molecular and genetic pathology. Dr. Clay completed his pathology residency at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. Afterward, he completed fellowship training in bone and soft tissue pathology and molecular genetic pathology at Emory University Hospital. Dr. Clay is the director of the Bone and Soft Tissue Service at the University of Colorado, and the fellowship director for the Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology Fellowship training program. His research interests focus on difficult areas in diagnostic pathology and leveraging molecular techniques to aid in the diagnosis and classification of tumors, particularly soft tissue sarcomas.

Juanita J. Evans, MD, FCAP, is a pathologist associated with three Ascension Providence Hospitals in the Detroit Metro area where she practices general pathology as well as hematopathology and serves as medical director, as well as Department Chair, for two of the facilities. She has served on the College of American Pathologists’ New in Practice Committee and currently serves on the CAP Practice Management Committee.

Sarika P. Jain, MD, FCAP, is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. She is currently working at University of Mississippi Medical Center as a tenured associate professor and serves as chief of the molecular pathology subdivision in the Department of Pathology. She is also the medical director of flow cytometry and the Molecular Laboratory. After completing medical school at Miraj Medical College in India, she completed her residency in pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). She also completed her fellowship training in hematopathology and molecular genetic pathology at UPMC. She has been at University of Mississippi Medical Center since 2017. 

Dr. Jain has a deep interest in flow cytometry. She built the leukemia and lymphoma panels in the only flow cytometry laboratory in the state of Mississippi, as well as an extensive test menu in the molecular pathology laboratory, including conventional tests and next-generation sequencing. She received the "COVID-19 Research Award" in 2021 for her efforts in building a molecular test to diagnose COVID-19 in three weeks and performing the test for the Mississippi State Department of Health. She is also the recipient of Clinical Pathology Teacher of the Year Award in 2019. In addition to the above, she has published several journal articles and abstracts in national meetings.

Erin Kaleta, PhD, DABCC, completed a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Arizona, Tucson and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical chemistry at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She joined Mayo Clinic in 2017 after gaining experience as clinical director of Chemistry and Spectrometry at Sonora Quest Laboratories. She serves as director of Infectious Disease Serology & Urinalysis and co-director of Clinical Chemistry. She is also actively engaged in Mayo Clinic enterprise committees, including the DLMP Laboratory Medicine Supply Chain Leadership Committee and Laboratory Standardization Group. Her education activities include leading the Biochemistry & Genetics Block in the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. Dr. Kaleta's research focus has been on the development of novel serologic assays for infectious agents.

Yuna Kang, MD, is an attending pathologist at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Her areas of expertise are gynecologic and dermatopathology. She completed anatomic and clinical pathology residency and surgical and gynecologic pathology fellowships at the University of California San Francisco, followed by the dermatopathology fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Kang joined the faculty of UCLA in 2018 as an assistant professor. Since then, she has been providing clinical service in the dermatopathology and gynecologic pathology divisions and participating in the residency and fellowship education for Pathology and Dermatology.

Brandon Larsen, MD, PhD, FCAP, is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology. He has completed advanced subspecialty training in both cardiovascular and pulmonary pathology, through separate ACGME-accredited fellowship programs at Mayo Clinic, with additional training emphasis in bone and soft tissue pathology. His clinical practice interests include cardiovascular, pulmonary, transplantation, and bone and soft tissue pathology, as well as general surgical and autopsy pathology. Dr. Larsen has lectured nationally and internationally on a broad range of clinical and basic research topics in both cardiovascular and pulmonary pathology, including surgical pathology of cardiovascular and pulmonary medical diseases, cardiac and pulmonary neoplasia, cardiovascular physiology, and endothelial biology. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters in these areas.

James (Jim) S. Lewis Jr., MD, FCAP, is a head and neck surgical pathologist with 21 years of practice experience. He has been at Mayo Clinic Arizona since February of 2024. He completed medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, completed AP/CP residency and general surgical pathology fellowships there, and then went on to spend almost 10 years as faculty before moving to Vanderbilt University for nine more years, followed by Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Lewis is co-chair of the College of American Pathologist's Expert Panel on Guidelines for HPV Testing in Head and Neck Carcinomas, was an Editor for the 2022 World Health Organization 5th Edition blue book on classification of head and neck tumors, and was former president of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology. He has taught and lectured extensively over the years, including numerous local, regional, national, and international presentations, and teaching and mentoring of hundred of medical students, residents, fellows, and pathology faculty. His research interests are in three major areas.

The first is on HPV in head and neck carcinomas, with particular focus on testing and application in routine practice, on detection methods, morphology, and prognosis. The second is in using computerized image analysis of digitized pathology slides for prognosis and prediction in oropharyngeal and oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma patients, for which he is Co-PI on two funded R01 grants through the NIH. The third is in 3D specimen imaging in collaboration with Dr. Michael Topf. He has over 200 publications in the medical literature including 40+ just on HPV in head and neck tumors.

Elena Lucas, MD, FCAP, is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She earned her medical degree at the Stavropol State Medical Institute in Russia. Dr. Lucas completed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology, followed by a cytopathology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Since 2011, she has been a faculty member of the pathology department at UT Southwestern. She specializes in gynecologic pathology and cytopathology. Dr. Lucas is the medical director of Surgical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry at Parkland Health. She is actively involved in pathology education and has been a four-time recipient of the Anatomic Pathology Residency Teaching Award. Her main research interests include immuno-oncology biomarkers and endometrial precancers.

Kelsey E. McHugh, MD, FCAP, is an associate professor and consultant at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where she serves as the program director of the Gastrointestinal & Liver Pathology Fellowship and the co-medical director of the Histology Laboratory. She is subspecialty trained in gastrointestinal & hepatobiliary pathology and cytopathology. Outside of Mayo Clinic Arizona, she serves as an editorial board member for the 1st Edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) Reporting System for Liver Cytopathology, an expert panel member on the College of American Pathology (CAP) Guideline Committee for HER2 Testing in Gastroesophageal Adenocarcinoma, and past president of the Ohio Society of Pathologists. She is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed medical and scientific manuscript publications as well as several book chapters.

Patrick McIntire, MD, FCAP, is the subspecialty director of Breast Pathology at Cleveland Clinic, where he oversees an elite, high-volume diagnostic service specializing in breast pathology, including consultations, complex resections, biomarkers, and intraoperative assessments. He completed his anatomic pathology residency and breast pathology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.

In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. McIntire serves as the medical director of Innovation and Improvement and chairs Cleveland Clinic’s Committee on Strategy and Innovation. In this role, he leads system-level initiatives focused on operational excellence, AI integration, and process redesign across one of the largest pathology departments in the country. His academic work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications and invited national talks, with a focus on breast pathology.

Lakshmi Ramachandran Nair, MD, MBBS, FCAP, is a leading pediatric neuropathologist at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, and an assistant professor in pathology at George Washington School of Medicine. She completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, and a fellowship in neuropathology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to her clinical work, she has authored 25 peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals. She also wrote a comprehensive book to guide aspiring neuropathologists through their training and early careers. She is actively involved in research on tumorigenesis of brain neoplasms, including medulloblastoma and retinoblastoma. She is also dedicated to education and frequently lectures for medical students, residents, and fellows, inspiring the next generation of neuropathologists.

Opal Reddy, MD, FCAP, is co-director of Transfusion Medicine at the Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California (USC) and associate medical director of Transfusion Medicine at the Los Angeles General Medical Center. She is also core teaching faculty for the USC/LA General Pathology Residency Program. She is a member of the CAP Transfusion, Apheresis, and Cellular Therapy Committee as well as the chair of the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) Hemovigilance Committee.

Omer Saeed, MD, MBBS, FCAP, is a board-certified pathologist specializing in anatomical, clinical, and cytopathology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Khartoum, Sudan, where he later served as a faculty member. He also taught at St. George’s University in Grenada, receiving multiple teaching awards. After relocating to the United States, Dr. Saeed completed his AP/CP residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident and was recognized with awards for research and professionalism. He subsequently pursued fellowships in cytopathology and surgical pathology, with a subspecialty focus on gastrointestinal pathology, at Indiana University. Currently, he is an assistant professor and program director for the GI and Liver Pathology Fellowship at Indiana University. Dr. Saeed has delivered national presentations on cytopathology and gastrointestinal pathology and has authored 33 peer-reviewed publications.

Rosemary C. She, MD, FCAP, is professor of Pathology, director of Medical Microbiology, and the CLIA Laboratory Director at City of Hope—Duarte. She completed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology and fellowship training in medical microbiology at the University of Utah/ARUP Laboratories. Dr. She has previously served the CAP on the Microbiology Committee and is actively involved in the American Society of Microbiology as well as the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Dr. She has been an enthusiastic mentor of undergraduates, medical students, residents, and fellows with interest in microbiology and clinical pathology. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters as well as given lectures nationally and internationally on clinical microbiology practices.

Karim E. Sirgi, MD, MBA, FCAP, owns Sirgi Consulting LLC and offers expertise to medical groups in various aspects of practice management and leadership. Dr. Sirgi is board-certified in anatomic, clinical, and cytopathology with additional surgical pathology fellowship training; he also holds an MBA and has 30+ years of practice and leadership experience in private, academic, and hospital-based pathology and medical staff settings. Among his previously held positions, Dr. Sirgi served as president of the largest multi-specialty pathology group in the Rocky Mountain region and chair of the regional medical staff council for the largest hospital organization in the US. Dr. Sirgi is the immediate past-president of the American Pathology Foundation, the chair of the CAP Practice Management Committee, and the chief science officer of Breath Tech.

Maxwell L. Smith, MD, FCAP, received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2004, completed a residency there in anatomic and clinical pathology in 2008, and became board certified in AP/CP that same year. He went on to complete a fellowship in medical renal and genitourinary pathology at the University of Colorado in 2009.

Dr. Smith joined the Department of Pathology faculty at University of Colorado Denver in 2008. While on staff, he was responsible for general surgical pathology and all renal, heart, and liver transplant pathology. In 2009 he became the director of Liver and Transplant Pathology at the University of Colorado Hospital and was promoted to assistant professor with a joint appointment in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine.

In 2011, he joined Mayo Clinic Arizona as a senior associate consultant in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. In 2012 he joined the pulmonary pathology working group. In 2013 he was promoted to consultant. He was promoted to associate professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in 2016 and served as the chairman of the Anatomic Pathology Quality Improvement Committee from 2012 to 2019. Dr. Smith is a departmental consultant in medical renal, liver, and pulmonary pathology. He was named vice chair of the Arizona Space and Capital Committee in 2023. He became the chair of the Division of Anatomic Pathology in 2019 and was promoted to professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in 2021. He is also the physician leader for Robotics and Automation in Bold Forward Unbound in Arizona.

Dr. Smith has lectured nationally and internationally on lean-based quality improvement methods and diagnostic issues in hepatic, renal, and pulmonary pathology. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications and dozens of book chapters in these areas. In 2016 he was awarded the Top 40 Under 40 by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

Melissa Stanton, MD, has been a consultant and assistant professor in the Department of Lab Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona since 2011 and is currently the medical director of the Surgical Pathology Laboratory. She did all of her medical training in Houston: she completed medical school and AP/CP residency at the University of Texas at Houston, followed by fellowships in selective surgical pathology and GU pathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is passionate about education and has been active in directing CME courses and delivering lectures to fellow pathologists, pathologists’ assistants, and medical students. She also enjoys engaging with and mentoring young people—from elementary school children to high school and college students, whose career goals are wide ranging. She recently received the 2025 DLMP Consultant Educator of the Year Award.

Yes, the Job Prep Bootcamp does provide CME credit. Participants are eligible for up to 24 total CME credits, up to 12 credits per weekend.
