Qualifications for Membership

For Fellow (FCAP) membership:

Physicians who are board certified by the American Board of Pathology, American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

For International Fellow (IFCAP) membership:

Physicians who reside outside of the United States and Canada and spend at least fifty percent of their professional time practicing pathology or physicians who have taken and passed their country’s certifying pathology exam (if there is one established).

For Junior membership (including international junior):

Physicians who are currently enrolled in a pathology residency training program or in non-board-certified fellowship training.

For Medical Student membership (including international medical students):

Students must be currently enrolled in a medical school program and have not graduated yet.

How do I apply for membership?

To apply for membership, click this link to launch our membership application. You will receive an email that we have received your application, and it is in process.

I am a PhD. Do I qualify for membership?

Based on our membership qualifications and structure, we do not offer membership to PhDs or other laboratory personnel. Individuals not eligible for CAP membership, including PhDs, non-board-certified pathologists, medical technologists, may apply to serve on several of our councils and committees. CAP Membership Renewal

Can I renew my membership? How to renew my membership?

Yes, you can renew your CAP Fellow (FCAP) or International Fellow (IFCAP) membership after July 1. You to access your membership and renew online or you can phone us at 800-323-4040 option 2.

  1. Log in to your CAP account with your User ID and password. Here is the link to log in https://memberportal.cap.org/memberservices/s/   
  2. In the dark gray navigation bar at the top of your screen, you should see your name and a drop-down arrow.

  3. Click or hover over your name to see more options. You need to select Access My Membership.

    This will bring you to the screen to start the renewal process.

    You can also phone us toll free at 800-323-4040, option 2. Outside the United States: +1 847-832-7000 to renew.

Retired

I am retired and no longer practicing pathology. What are my membership options?

If you are a current CAP member and retired from practice, we can transition you to a Life Fellow of the CAP. Life Fellows retain all benefits of CAP membership. As a Life Fellow, you will continue to enjoy all the benefits of CAP membership, including full voting rights and eligibility for elected CAP positions. Your last dues payment will also serve as your Life Fellow payment—no further membership fees are required. You can send an email to the CAP membership at membership@cap.org and include your retirement date or phone us toll free at 800-323-4040, option 2. Note we will need the date you retired.

Military Pricing $244.50 Applies to active-duty U.S. Military, U.S. Public Health Services (USPHS), or Veterans Affairs (VA) board-certified pathologists.

Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FCAP) $489.00

International Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (IFCAP) $489.00 USD and dues may be discounted based on the country of residence and in alignment with the World Bank’s income groups.

Special Offer for 2024 Board-Certified Fellows:

If you were board certified in 2024, we offer a three-year CAP membership for just $199. Send us an email at membership@cap.org for more information.

Group Membership

Can you tell me about the Group Membership with the CAP?

Group membership discounts are based on the number of eligible pathologists in your group. Groups receive a percentage discount for each member based on the following tiers:

  • 2–9 members: 20% off or $97.90 off dues per member
  • 10–49 members: 25% off or $122.50 off dues per member
  • 50+ members: 30% off or $146.70 off dues per member

I can calculate your savings if you like. Please tell me the number of pathologists in your group and I can do the numbers for you.

Membership Discounts

I am in the military. Do you offer a military membership or a discount?

Yes, we offer a membership discount of 50% off full FCAP member dues for members serving in the US Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs. If you are in the military and do not have a current military discount, send us an email to membership@cap.org or phone toll free at 800-323-4040, option 2.

I am not able to afford my membership dues. Can you help or can I seek assistance?

We understand and can accommodate requests to offer reduced dues rate of $100.00 USD for this membership year. Please send us an email at membership@cap.org or phone us toll free at 800-323-4040, option 2. Outside the United States: +1 847-832-7000 so we can help.

General Questions

I need a receipt for my dues. Can you help?

We send a copy of your receipt to your preferred email address. I can also help

you access your receipt via the member portal. Here are the steps:

  1. Log in to your CAP account with your User ID and password. Here is the link to log in https://memberportal.cap.org/memberservices/s/   
  2. Once logged in, select Access My Membership
  3. Select the Orders tab
  4. Select All Orders
  5. Click on the > on the in the Receipt line item.
  6. Click the download icon.
  7. Your receipt opens in a new tab. You can print or download a copy.
  8. If are not able to access, I can help you.
  9. You can send a request to our Membership Team to send you a copy via email. Please send an email to membership@cap.org and the membership team will assist.
